This document includes the following two guidelines:

  1. Diagnosis and management of type 2 diabetes in primary health care in low-resource settings: The primary goal of this guideline is to improve the quality of care and the outcome in people with type 2 diabetes in low-resource settings. It recommends a set of basic interventions to integrate management of diabetes into primary health care. It is intended to serve as a basis for development of simple algorithms for use by health care staff in primary care in low-resource settings, to reduce the risk of acute and chronic complications of diabetes.
  2. Management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in primary health care in low-resource settings: The main purpose of this guideline is to provide evidence-based recommendations on  management of asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in primary health care in low-resource settings. The target users are physicians and health workers. The main objectives are to reduce avoidable death and morbidity related to asthma and COPD and to improve health outcomes in resource-limited settings where diagnostic facilities and medicines are limited.
