This topic guide considers the evidence available on the skills immediately necessary for employment. It focuses on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) skills, concerned with the acquisition of knowledge and skills for the world of work. The topic guide signposts readers to the best original sources of information and summarises the most important findings and messages from international research.

Higher Education

This topic guide presents evidence of the critical role of higher education for national development. It identifies the need for and key challenges in building capacity in higher education in low- and middle-income contexts and explores how innovative partnerships between higher education institutions, national governments, the international development community and other public and private sector actors can support this process. It examines the best evidence available on the challenges facing the higher education sector and promising practices to overcome these challenges from a variety of settings.
